Bowen TechniqueWhat is Bowen?
Bowen technique is a gentle therapy that balances the body and resets it to heal itself. The work consists of gentle rolling movements performed on the connective tissues, using a light touch and may be done through clothing. There are frequent pauses between these manipulations to give the body time to benefit from each Bowen set.
By combining both the placement and combinations of the technique the practitioner is able to discern in which muscle groups stress has build-up and utilize Bowen's subtle movements to release these stress points.
The Bowen Technique, balances and stimulates energy flows, resulting in a deep overall sense of relaxation. The restorative process begins once the body is relaxed. Healing occurs by affecting the bodies autonomic nervous system, thereby creating homeostasis at the cellular level.
Bowen is completely safe and appropriate for everyone from the highly trained athlete to newborns, pregnant women, elderly and the chronically ill.
With the Bowen Technique, which is referred to as a "complementary" modality, it will enhance and compliment-- not interfere with-- other medical treatment. However, doing other manipulative therapies immediately after a Bowen session can undermine the effectiveness of the continuing Bowen work.
Waiting a week before initiating additional body treatment (for example massage or Rolfing) is recommended. By contrast, Homeopathy has been found to be a complimentary modality with Bowen to aid in the healing process.
Bowenwork ( also called the Bowen technique) addresses many conditions in Holistic measures. Bowenwork produces an integrated body response. Many who experience this therapy are astounded at the results they receive. Bowenwork facilitates correcting many conditions, some of which are:
| back pain | headaches | sacro-iliac pain |
| asthma, respiratory conditions | hamstring pain or tightness | scoliosis/postural imbalances |
| carpal tunnel syndrome | jaw pain/misalignment | shin splints |
| chronic fatigue syndrome | neck pain, restricted range of motion | sporting injuries |
| fibromyalgia | knee pain | sprained ankles |
| frozen shoulder | plantar fasciitis | sternal pain, sprung ribs |
| groin tension or pain | sciatica | tennis elbow |
Bowen technique feels subtle. Short specific moves trigger the body's relaxation response. You may fall asleep or be aware of gentle sensations. Most clients report a significant release of tension. Some moves are more dramatic - especially where your body has held long term dysfunction and/or pain. Your body will shift, allowing regeneration and healing.
